Introducing Portland Chiropractor Dr. Jeff Devine
Thanks for taking the time to read my story.
My life as an Oregonian began back in 1990. My parents vacationed here with friends and returned home to inform me to pack my bags because, "we're moving to Oregon." We dropped everything and moved to Eugene where I finished high school at South Eugene and later went on to graduate from Oregon State University.
While at Oregon State, I was working at a restaurant when a coworker, Sam, mentioned that he was going to chiropractic college after his undergraduate studies. I didn't know much about chiropractic at the time, just that I had been to a chiropractor after an auto accident. I thought at the time that they only helped people get rid of their pain. Sam and I had a long discussion about the philosophy of chiropractic (wellness) and after some research I started giving chiropractic, as a career, a lot of thought.
My Calling
It didn’t take me very long to realize that this form of healthcare was my calling. It perfectly matched the way I always felt about my body while growing up – my body could do the work if I just provided what was needed.
I spent the next summer visiting Chiropractic Colleges in Oregon and California. The next fall, I changed my major, finished up at OSU, and moved to California where I attended the prestigious Palmer College of Chiropractic. I graduated in 2001 and practiced in a few different offices before deciding to come back to Oregon. In April of 2003 I opened Devine Chiropractic in Hillsdale (Southwest Portland). In January of 2010 I relocated to my new office in Raleigh Hills (Southwest Portland/Beaverton). It is a beautiful state-of-the-art Chiropractic office, offering traditional chiropractic. I have to say that the longer I am a chiropractor, the more I am amazed by the beauty of the innate intelligence that has been given to each of us.
I have learned over the years that the power of the body far outreaches what most of us give it credit for. It needs no help to perform properly, but it does require that there is no interference. To put it another way, what we do to/for our bodies needs to promote health, if we want to be healthy. I believe the wellness approach is the best way to achieve health. Wellness has nothing to do with treatment. Care based on treatment of symptoms should be called sickness care, and that can be OK when you are sick. Wellness is a collective of three things; Physical health, Biochemical health, and Psychological health. This has been the message of chiropractic for over 100 years.
This philosophy not only defines my professional life, but it carries over to my personal live as well. I am very fortunate to have two lovely and wonderful ladies in my life. First is my bride Cindy, whom I love dearly and rely on daily and second is my daughter Lily. Lily is our fountain of youth and our mentor (Psychological). Movement is very important if you want to be healthy. I’m now getting into my upper 30’s and I stretch daily, exercise regularly, and play soccer weekly. I love getting exercise any way I can including: running, hiking, camping, working in the yard, etc (Physical). We live in the city, but we are passionate about producing much of our food. We keep chickens and we have a balanced organic garden which continues to get bigger every year (Chemical). Oh yeah… I get adjusted weekly to keep my nervous system working at its best. This is a very important key to my health.
My goal is to help our community improve health naturally and chiropractic plays a major role in this goal. Please take the time to come by and visit our office.
